Quick Summary:

Date Tested: 5/28/2025

In this Cotz Face Prime and Protect Tinted mineral SPF 40, I find a high performing sunscreen formulation. Thanks go to Alisa for the sunscreen sample!

The Cotz Face Prime and Protect Tinted mineral SPF 40 sunscreen lotion and makeup primer is a mineral sunscreen/makeup primer formulation which contains Titanium Dioxide at 8%, and Zinc Oxide at 3.8%. This brand touts its vegan, gluten free, and natural approach to skincare (as evidenced by its short list of inactive ingredients!).

The Cotz Face Prime and Protect Tinted mineral SPF 40 reduced 97.77% of irradiated UVA, 96.33% UVB, and 97.68% of total UVI. Good results most likely due the higher viscosity and layer thickness.

The Cotz Face Prime and Protect Tinted mineral SPF 40 distributed very evenly, and created a thick layer on the prepared slide sample.

Prepared slide AFTER testing

After the 2 hour test procedure, the sample exhibited evidence of desiccation. You can see how it now looks like a cute cell. This did not reduce the UV filtering ability of the formula during the 2h test.
