Quick Summary:

In this Bondi Sands Fragrance Free for Face SPF 50 sunscreen lotion review, I test another new to me sunscreen lotion sent in by a reader. Thanks Christi!
The Bondi Sands Face SPF50 is a chemical based (organic) lotion which incorporates 3% Avobenzone, 10% Homosalate, 5% Octisalate, and 8% Octocrylene. A pretty typical cocktail of UV filters, with high enough concentration which should ensure a wide spectrum of sun protection. Unfortunately, I didn’t find the protection to be as amazing as the SPF 50 label indicated but it still provided a decent amount, in the SPF 30-ish range.
Testing the Bondi Sands Face SPF50 indicated the lotion blocked UVA by 83.36%, reduced UVB by 78.02%, and reduced total UVI by 83.09%. A decent performer, but not exceptional. I do like the tube design though.

Bondi Sands Face SPF 50 lotion characteristics at a glance:
- 80 minute water-resistance
- Viscosity is somewhat runny
Prepared slide ready for testing
The Bondi Sands fragrance free SPF 50 has a somewhat runny viscosity and distributes unevenly.
You can see where the magnetic vice pressure area (in the center of the slide) has left a thin layer of the sunscreen which didn’t bode well for testing. Typically, the dispersion of a chemical sunscreen is less important, but in this case it probably contributed to the weakness in testing results.
Below are the results from 2 hours of testing in my UV testing station.
Bondi Sands Face SPF 50 UV blocking test results
Ultraviolet light quick reference:
UVA: The Ultraviolet wavelength from 315nm – 400nm. The “Aging UV light” – Causes wrinkles.
UVB: The Ultraviolet wavelength from 280nm – 315nm. The “Bad UV light” – Causes skin cancer.
UVI: The global sun UV index. The more a sunscreen can reduce the level of UVI, the better.
UV test results:
Ultraviolet sensor readings:
Before Sunscreen | After Sunscreen | % UV Blocked | |
TEMP | 82.18 | 83.04 | |
UVA | 24098 | 4008.75 | 83.36% |

UVI | 14.18 | 2.40 | 83.09% |
Testing notes:
A somewhat decent performer. Nothing great, nothing bad, nothing especially important my writing here can really add. Tube design is cool though.
